Metro Bank Offers Pet Insurance as Pet Ownership Soars During Pandemic | FinTech Finance

Metro Bank today unveils a new partnership with the insurer Cardif Pinnacle via its Everypaw brand, to offer a suite of pet insurance products for dogs, cats, and rabbits.

Some of the key features on offer from Everypaw include:

  • Unlimited 24/7 access to vet nurses and vets.
  • 6 levels of lifetime cover to choose from, with two of these 5-star Defaqto rated and a recipient of the Feefo Trusted Service Award.
  • 97% of claims paid.
  • Insure several pets for a multi-pet discount.
  • Simple claims process through the online Pet Portal, with payments, sent directly to your vet.
  • Manage policies online at any time.

The Bank has conducted research that reveals just how much people in the UK treasure their pets, especially throughout the national lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic. According to Metro Bank’s polling, more than eight in ten (82%) pet owners say their pet has been important to their mental and physical health during the pandemic, with six in ten (60%) even going so far as saying that their pet receives more attention than anyone else in their household. Nearly half (48%) admit that they’ve given their pet too many treats during lockdown. Sadly for some, more than a third of pet owners (36%) state that they’ll be spending less time with their pet once lockdown eases.

Metro Bank’s study also highlighted that while six in ten (61%) said they would always get their pet insured the reality is that more than half of pet owners don’t actually have insurance cover for their animals.

This comes at a time when it is claimed that more than three million households in the UK have acquired a pet since the start of the pandemic. Some of these new pet owners may not realize just how expensive pets can be, especially if sickness or injury strikes and they don’t have pet insurance that suits their individual needs.
